Welcome to a day in the life of Kindergarten at Glenbrook Public School!

When students arrive, they can hang their bags directly onto the hooks outside that kindergarten classrooms. The students can then move straight to the playground to meet their friends where a teacher is on duty from 8:40am.

In the mornings, students are encouraged to play quiet games and talk to their friends. There are often softballs, hand balls and other equipment like hula hoops or skipping ropes available for them to use.

When the morning bell rings, it is time for the students to move quickly to sit on the silver seats near the Kindergarten classroom. A teacher will meet students there and escort them to the classroom that will enter the classroom and quietly seats at the front of the room ready to start learning for the day. Students may take out their drink bottles to put on the hydration station so they can have access to water throughout the day.

If your child arrives late to school, please enter the main office where our wonderful admin staff will be able to sign your child in electronically.

We encourage whole-body listening by reminding students of the five L's listening with their ears, having lips closed, legs crossed, hands in your lap and eyes looking at the teacher.

During the first hour, students will be engaged with literacy activities, which may involve reading, writing, handwriting, using the computers for reading activities, and a range of literacy bass games.

At 10:15am students will then have a short brain break and have some crunch and sip. Students are encouraged to have some water and a piece of fruit or vegetable.

The rest of the morning involves more literacy-based activities as a whole class which may involve a craft relating to the sounds we are learning, sight word practice or a whole class writing session, and often a short fitness break.

When it is recess time students will be asked to collect their hat and lunchbox from their bag and walk to the concrete designated eating area. Here they will sit down and eat for 10 minutes before putting lunchboxes back into their bag and moving into the playground to play with their friends.

Students are encouraged to learn how to open their lunch boxes and containers themselves. Although our staff on duty are always there to help out when required.

We love to keep our school tidy, so please make sure you always remember to put your rubbish in the bin.

When the bell rings at the end of play, students quickly want to line up in two straight lines on the concrete area outside the Kindergarten rooms where they will meet their teacher.

The middle session runs from 11:35am to 1:05pm and usually includes some talking and listening and math based activities. This may include students presenting their news, some explicit Maths teaching, Maths groups using computers to consolidate mathematical concepts, Maths online or number based games.

When students are consistently doing the right thing a teacher might give them a star card. When a student receives 10 star cards they receive an Assistant Principal award for their hard work.

At 1:05pm students will be asked to take out their lunchbox and hats and will be walked to their class’s designated eating area.

When students are finished eating their lunch, their teacher will then lead them to the playground. During the lunch break, students can use the whole grass area A sandpit adventure playground take part in running and large ball games. Here, there are three teachers always on duty. If any student needs anything, they also have their Year 6 buddy who will be eager to help them.

The afternoon session runs from 1:55pm until 3:10pm. Students will generally participate in Science, History, Geography, creative and practical art activities.

We love our students to leave school happy with big smiles on their face ready to come back the following day to learn more.

At around three o'clock in the afternoon, Kindergarten teachers will help students pack their bags, collect all their belongings and get ready to walk out to the gate to meet their parents for pickup. Students who use before and after school care at Fun Kids will then be led to the hall for these care.

Every day is an adventure in kindergarten all our staff are excited to welcome our new kindergarten students to Glenbrook Public School!
